lilith - the first feminist who walked the earth.
she was made by the same earth and gravel as adam and for that reason simply asked why she was being denied the same rights as adam. after she fled god created adam's second wife from adams own flesh so she could automatically be subdued for all time.
for that reason she has been an icon for evil. religion does not take kindly on equality.

love this! when i found out that Eve was Adam's second wife, i felt so astonished and then gratified to learn that he only had a second wife because the first refused to submit to him! amazing! and that she was vilified for doing so, cast out of "heaven" for it and eventually became the mother of "monsters"--this part im not too sure about but--overall, im in awe of he character.

well, i wouldn't be too sure about any of really - since it's all fiction. but it's still interesting, innit.

I've joked with my friends that if I ever have a daughter I will name her Lilith. one, because seeing the reactions from other parents at their school will be funny as hell. Two, because it's a badass sounding name. And three, mostly because I genuinely like the character. Lovely work~

but surely the name lilith is widely regarded as an everyday woman's name isn't it?
can't really picture the scenario in which one introduces herself as lilith and receives the response
"oh, as in the mythological hebrew deity who is said to be adam's first wife but is later on considered to be in league with the devil and consequently the reason for deaths of infants?"
"yes, that's the one."

*shrug* I don't know. It's not all that common of a name these days. At least I've never heard it in public. Eh. I wasn't sure what I was thinking at the time.

she is also the Sumerian Fertility Goddess
the hebrews Demonized her like they demonized other Pagan Gods to draw worshippers away from the Pagan Religions

wow, really? i mean, i knew about Christianity demonizing other gods/goddesses and rebuilding on pagan ground and other stuff like that, but i didn't know that she was once (and still is?) the Sumerian Fertility Goddess.
